What can I do to stop the mold smell in our doorway?
Q. I live in Houston, TX and just went through Hurricane Ike, our home did not suffer any damage. We were without power for about 3 days and now 3 days later we have a mild mold smell in our doorway. What can I do to stop the smell? I looked for mold but can’t find any.
A. Hi Houston, My first question would be have you checked the humidity in your home. If the humidity is below 60% the problem may not be in your home. At times when the humidity levels outside are very high Mold will grow rapidly in the vegetation around our homes. The musty odor we relate with mold will sometimes fill the entryways to our homes. I would recommend keeping shrubs and bushes at lest four feet away from an entry to the house. This does not guarantee the odor will not find it’s way in but it will help to allow the air to move around the shrubbery and dry them out.

We have a machine that will kill Mold and bacteria anywhere in your home. It will also eliminate all odors from mold, or even toxic chemicals like Formaldehyde. If you have central air and heating (HVAC) we have a unit that will go right behind your circulator. This is NOT Ozone. It is a technology patented in 1965 that produces high allotropes of Oxygen O4 to O15 (Ozone is O3). Our output is many times more powerful and does not produce any harmful side effects as some Ozone machines do. They also require NO maintenance and are warranted for 4 years with a 25 year warranty option.
