A Hidden Threat

The state of your home greatly depend on its electric installations and its pipes. However, while your electrical installation can pose hazard for your safety if not secured, the way in which moldy pipes endanger your health is much more subtle. To put it simply, day in and out you will intake a lot of harmful substances through consumption or through skin without even noticing it. The worst thing is that while you are slowly poisoning yourself, the only difference that you might feel might be a slight difference in taste or smell. This is why, if you have some mold in your drain pipes you need to deal with them as quickly as possible.

Detecting mold in pipes

Now, this step is quite simple, even though hypothetically speaking mold could appear anywhere, there are some general areas where it is most likely to appear. There are some tests for mold that you can perform on your own, but there is always an option to go to professionals for help. Be as it may, where there is moisture, sooner or later mold will appear (it’s just the way things are), however this is not the end of the world. Simply perform some regular checkups and once the mold appears be ready to spring into action.

Fighting mold

Be warned, once you try to browse mold fighting solutions you will be presented with the range of highly toxic chemicals that will “help” you solve your problems. Even though they are effective in removing the mold from your pipes, they are usually even worse for your health than mold ever was. With this in mind, find a natural way to get rid of mold, like using a vinegar, hydrogen peroxide or even baking soda. Just remember, your health and safety always come first. There is simply no point in solving your mold problem if by doing this you risk contaminating your pipes with various toxins.

Mold in pipes

Unfortunately, sometimes mold can grow on the inside of pipes and when this happens, things tend to be a bit more complicated. First inconvenience caused by this is a fact that it is harder to spot this way. The only reliable way of detecting mold in your pipes is by noticing a distinct odor that they give away. Even though you may try to find a way of dealing with this issue, it is usually far better to leave this to professionals. Hiring a plumber who takes cleaning blocked drains more seriously and approach the problem professionally is always a better idea than trying to do this on your own. DIY repairs and maintenance may be cheaper, but in the long run this usually doesn’t pay off.

In the end, the safety of you and your family should always be paramount. Even though some believe mold to be just an aesthetic problem and that its only side-effect is an unpleasant odor, this is far from truth. Because of this, do all that is in your power to protect those you care about and yourself from the harmful influence of this plight in your own home.
