If so, these tablets may be for you. Front loaders tend to seal extremely well, maybe too well trapping the moisture in allowing mold to grow.

If this mold grows it will give out a very non-appetizing smell. How can you get rid of this moldy odor?

To combat (or prevent) an odor problem, Whirlpool developed Affresh tablets. The tablets are said to prevent residues from accumulating. And if a problem has already begun, the company recommends using one tablet in three consecutive washes.

simply leave the HE washer door open after each load - I also use an old towel and dry down the inside of the unit.

I am trying affresh this evening, and the instructions said use three tablets in place of one, and follow directions as above. Which leads me to believe you put 3 in at once, NOT 1 in 3 consecutive washes, which is what I figured I was supposed to do. So, I plopped 3 of those discs in there, and hopefully it was right, because that was the whole package!.... we shall see.

Whirlpool sent me an ad for 2 packages of Affresh tablets & stated 3 tablets were to be used together for first-time deep cleaning and 3 tablets to be used one per month to maintain freshness.

The area of heaviest buildup of odor-causing residue is always just above the normal waterline where suds and soiled water splash up and don't get rinsed out. To get rid of the residue in the "splash area" you are able to add a cap of Smelly Washer or Smelly Towel Cleaner to a full load of laundry and wash in a hot setting. The added bulk of the clothing will raise the water level to include the splash area. More extreme cases can push "pause" to allow a soak. Very extreme odor problems may take overnight soaking.
