Ruth in North Haven, Connecticut

by Jonathan

I moved into senior housing eight years ago. I noticed that I frequently get big chunks of black stuff which I believe is mold in my shower head and floating in my toilet. I complained to management and they brought someone to my apartment who they said was a plumber. He said it was because frequently they didn’t treat the water properly at the reservoir. I have lived in this town for 35 years in various places and never had this problem. I am trapped here due to finances and just clean frequently with bleach and then it lets up for awhile. Sometimes when I shower my eyes itch and burn. I have noticed that I am more short of breath lately.

Questions:

Can their explanation of my mold problem be true? How do I correct this problem?

Hi Ruth, Without a professional mold inspection & testing you are at an impasse. Also because you are living in governmental housing (is that what you mean by senior housing?) you are at their mercy. The only out that I can see for you in the position that you are, is to request another apartment or possibly moving into a safe, mold free home. Never, ever apply bleach or any other kind of chemical to mold. It will only ‘COLOR’ the mold, but not irradicate it. The chemical serves as a food source for the mold and makes it proliferate. Also it creates a very ‘toxic’ biohazard. Your symptoms are classic mold exposure symptoms and should not be ignored or taken lightly.

Dear Ruth, You are not trapped! We can help you. We offer portable systems that you can use that will actually “kill” mold. They are portable and convenient and will begin the killing process immediately. Within a couple of weeks, you should see considerable improvement especially with your itchy eyes and shortness of breath. Chrissy is correct. Never use bleach to clean and treat mold. It is actually the “water” in bleach that feeds the mold. You can read more about bleach and mold on our Face Book page; Air & Mold Technologies. Please contact us and we will be glad to work with you and help you out! You DO have a solution with Air & Mold Technologies.
